8 Questions with The Humpday Project

Posted by Phonic | Posted in , | Posted on 12:56 PM

I was lucky enough to ask the humpday project 8 questions about their thoughts and music, Catch them headlining This Saturday @ phonic!

Where did you get your name from?

We make music on Wednesdays to combat the boredom of the midweek. The Midweek Project just didn't sound as good.

Where do you draw your inspiration from? What music did you listen to before you started producing? (what were your 'roots')

We both have really different musical background. I grew up digging metal than later developed a lifelong love for all things hip hop. I also love punk music and believe that both hip hop and punk are the two most important and influential music and cultural movements in modern history. Heath didn't have a childhood. He was just born the way you see him now except a really long time ago. He has been djing for around three hundred and fifteen years now. He used to play gabba and hardcore...no shit!

You seem to have remixed quite a variety of artists, From N.E.R.D to Justice and even Aerosmith! Are there any artists outside of this genre of music that you could say have influenced your style of production?

I think everything from modern pop music to straight out ghetto shit. If you listen to music in terms of 'what elements do I like' you'll find something of value in almost everything even if you personal don't dig the genre.

What Music do you listen to on your ipod if your not producing or mixing?

I don't own an ipod. At home I'm listening to a lot of big band revival stuff and some old ska punk records at the moment.

What has been the best show you have ever seen either Participate in or Spectated?

I would have to say Stevie Wonder on his last tour. He broke down in tears while singing a cover of the Four Tops 'Sugar Pie Honey Bun'.

Who in your opinion is killing it Internationally and who is killing it Locally?

Tittsworth, Dave Nada, Major Lazer, Rennaisance Man, Afrojack, Laidback Luke, L-Vis 1990, Edu K. Locally...Marky Mark & King Lee, Adam Zae, Doctor Werewolf, Derty Rich, Niggaz On Crack, Zug Zug, Dave Beres, A-Tonez.

What are the plans for the future? Any tours, EP's

We have about five remixes ready for release on various labels one of which being a re-work of Dj Assaults classic 'Ass n Titties'.

Who would be the ultimate artists to play alongside?

I would love to jam with Jesus.

Cheers to Steve from the Humpday Prject for making this possible

PHONIC ROUND TWO THIS SATURDAY!!

Posted by Phonic | Posted in | Posted on 6:44 PM

PHONIC is back again for round two @ the arthouse. The return of phonic crew bring an equally matched line up similar to the one that shook up the Arthouse in May. This venue offers nothing less of the best in cutting edge sound, lighting and visuals creating the perfect setting for every partygoer. Phonic is spread across 2 rooms with an outside smoking area, public transport and luxurious accommodation only a few feet away. Our patrons find everything they require at the one convenient location.

This time round our line up includes some of the most talented local and national producers/deejays who all seem to be creating a mark for themselves!

THE HUMP DAY PROJECT

As the sun sets over the city skyline two lone figures lurk in the shadows of twilight, preparing their assault on an unsuspecting club land recovering from the weekend and approaching the mid week.

From within the confines of their Surry Hills studio/hideout, the sounds of the new club revolution can be heard echoing over the rooftops, throughout the city and deep within the hearts of our two heroes.

Across the globe the Hump Day sound has not gone unnoticed with The Utah Saints dropping their remixes on Annie Nightingales BBC Radio 1 show and the Stanton Warriors, Malente and Tittsworth all becoming followers of the church that Hump built.

Locally their ghetto inspired party jams have been getting major support from the likes of Ajax, Aston Shuffle, Kid Kenobi, Trashbag Djs. Whilst The Potbelleez raved from the rooftops about the Humps’ reworking of their club anthem ‘Don’t Hold Back’ into a sweaty Baltimore bangin mess, the kids hit the dancefloor to jump & shout.

This dashing duo are quickly becoming blogosphere darlings, with Hump tracks, edits and remixes popping up on Palms Out Sounds, Scattermish, DanceWithMyDaddy, and Trashbags DJs. Just type ‘Hump Day’ into Hypemachine…you’ll see.

The Hump Day Project; pulling their caps down and a little to the right since 2007.

GLASS MIRRORS (MELB)

Glass Mirrors are rad kids from down Melbourne town. The original purveyors of the goon party, their shows usually end up in sweaty nakedness, usually from the b******s.
According to them they are the aural equivalent of your newborn child's coke addiction because you couldn’t stop racking up while pregnant you irresponsible parent... but yes they are actually quite good at the disc jocking.

Having recently supported acts in the last few months such as Passions, Le Caslevania, Shazam, Van She Tech, Dre Skull, Lady Gaga, Danger, Grum, Strip Steve plus many more and having played after parties for the likes of Tiesto, multiple Ministry of Sound tours and a load of other shit, they know how to throw down some serious gay in the bum.
They run some loose parties in the city of Melbourne too. On top of all this cool they make tracks, not to mention touching other people's songs in very inappropriate places.
They also ran a totally rad blog on the inter webs. Having said all this they are self confessed "scene DJs' obsessed with all things fashion related and they also hate all jocks.
They will be touring Sydney this year and everyone should come grind with them when they do.

R!M!E!

Dj/Producer R!M!E who will be playing main stage has done many remixes and productions. One who is getting recognised for his phenomenal talent, most notably his pulsating bassline remix of Mars by Fake Blood that was used by Fake Blood himself in his "Essential Mix" for BBC1 Radio in the UK gaining world wide recognition. R!M!E! is consistently producing new music and keeps his fans wanting more. This new comer is definitely turning a few heads with his mash up party tunes.

A-TRAK VS DAFT PUNK VS SEBASTIAN TELLIER

Posted by Phonic | Posted in , , , , , | Posted on 4:06 PM

A-TRAK in my honest opinion is one of the most talented deejays to grace planet earth. When you’ve won the most coveted DJ competition in the world by the ripe old age of 15, one would wonder how you would top that. Aligning himself with the biggest jaw-breaking hip hop superstar the world has seen since the one-gloved moonwalker, you start to get an idea of the heights that DJ A-Trak has taken his incredible career.

Taking the honourable position behind the wheels of steels for two mammoth Kanye West sold out tours, A-Trak still sells out clubs, festivals and arenas on the back of his own moniker. He has fast tracked a knack for cutting, scratching and blending to become this generations most known and revered DJ.

Be sure to catch him on his Australian Tour for the Parklife festival gigs in 2009.

Now to leave you with one very cool remix by A-trak.

New Distrakt

Posted by Phonic | Posted in | Posted on 2:13 PM

My good friend (and phonic resident) Distrakt has sent me over some killer tracks he has produced for you guys in full quality! The kid has been ripping Germany a new one and is set to tear up Netherlands this weekend and also play the Reebok pumps 20th anniversary party!

His original 'The Wrecker' has to be my favorite of the two, some crazy samples and the unique flow of the song make his ever progressing, eccentric production techniques stand out to a point where he has created his own style and separated him from the rest of the clones. This has to be one of his best achievements to date.

Distrakt - The Wrecker (YSI)

His remix of Sterehoes (not to be confused with stereoheroes) is also a huge track with a thumping bass and crazy distortion which will keep the munters happy working perfectly with a much more chilled breakdown which captures the original synth work and will keep ladies on the dancefloor.

Sterehoes - Urgent Drugs (Distrakt Remix) (YSI)
